Design Trends

Harnessing Titans

Like many microbrands, SeaMarine draws inspiration from the iconic models and techniques used by high-end brands, which allows us to benefit from investments these brands make in market research and market shaping.

Leveraging Trends

Leveraging design trends and market-capitalisation while infusing our own product with unique innovations allows us to gain early traction, reduce development costs and risk of failure or adoption, appeal to value-conscious buyers and leverage familiarity with proven, market-tested options.

Bringing Innovations

SeaMarine embraces the iconic marine heritage of Rolex, Omega, Breitling and others, leaning into the engrained design concepts and themes. However, rather than simply copying these designs, we have infused our creations with a number of unique innovations and design elements.

Natural World

Leaning into the Marine heritage of the brand and colours found in the natural world in or surrounding water, SeaMarine are launching with three limited edition dials – in SeaMarine black, Polar White and Deep Blue.

Seas and Skies

In alignment with the Gull in Flight logo, each dial showcases the marine horizon where sky and sea blend through a natural colour fade, capturing both the majesty and depth of the open ocean and the often mirrored skies above.

 Market Drivers

Not only do dials align with our brand, but black, white, and blue also with market preferences, catering to popular demand and simplifying consumer choice. The three options add to our marketing narrative, streamline production, and focus consumer attention on trusted, stylish choices.

Modern Techniques

Dials are a significant part of the SeaMarine design – front and centre both literally and figuratively. Through a combination of modern CNC Milling and Pad Printing techniques, the dials reflect both the calm translucence of the skies and the textured patterns of cresting waves beneath in a subtle but ground-breaking way.

Modern Ceramic Bezels

Six Marine Inspired Colours

The SeaMarine Sports Diver will use ceramic for the bezels due to the materials exceptional durability, scratch resistance and ability to maintain its appearance over time. We also recognise its prevalence in high-end luxury watches as a staple. Intent is to launch with six bezel choices in colours that reflect those found in nature in marine environments.

Key Benefits of the Movement

High-End Sweep

With a high beat rate of 28,800 bph, the movement offers a smooth, sweeping motion of the seconds hand, enhancing the luxury feel of the watch.

Reliable & Dependable

Its robustness and ease of servicing ensure that the movement performs reliably over time, making it a favourite in the entry-level luxury segment.

Accessible & Luxurious

Compared to in-house or ETA movements, the Sellita SW200 offers a great cost-to-performance ratio, making it an attractive choice for watchmakers seeking high quality at a reasonable price.

Highly Available

Since ETA movements became more difficult to source due to Swatch Group’s supply restrictions, Sellita has filled that gap by providing high-quality, Swiss-made alternatives.

26 Jewels for Low Friction

The 26 jewels in a mechanical watch movement primarily serve to reduce friction between moving parts, which improves accuracy, longevity, and durability. These synthetic rubies are placed at key points in the movement such as where gears pivot or where the balance wheel oscillates to reduce wear and tear on metal components.

Benefits

  • Increased longevity
  • Improved accuracy
  • Enhanced shock resistance
  • Lower maintenance cost

High Frequency for Accuracy

28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), is considered a high standard for mechanical watch movements across the industry, offering a balance between accuracy, durability, and power efficiency. 28,800 is a benchmark across the industry including brands like Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Breitling.

Benefits

  • Smooth sweep of the second hand
  • Greater accuracy compared to lower frequency movements
  • Good compromise between precision, durability and power-reserve

Horological Significance

The International 10:10 Time Standard

The time ‘Ten past Ten’ has been routinely adopted as a standard for displays and adverts for the watch industry right around the world. There are a number of reasons for this but primarily, it’s for aesthetics.

The watch configuration at 10.10 with its symmetry and visibility for the logo allows the styling of the watch to be more readily admired.

The SeaMarine ‘Gull in Flight’ logo, with its wings at 10.10 is a purposeful, clear and obvious tribute to the horological significance of the time.
